Each year the Academy solicits nominations for new members. According to the Academy's By-Laws, "Appointment to the Academy is the highest recognition which may be bestowed upon fellow faculty members by their colleagues." Thus, the members of the Academy of Scholars are selected from the most outstanding and widely recognized faculty members at Wayne State University. This year, the Academy has received a large number of nominations. Currently, the Membership Committee is working hard in the evaluation process; the Committee has solicited external letters of appraisal for each nominee.
