On December 17, 2012, Professor Michael J. McIntyre became the inaugural recipient of The President's Award for Excellent in Service for his "extraordinary service to Wayne State University." The citation was presented to Professor McIntyre at a luncheon held in his honor at the President's apartment. According to the citation, "Professor Mcintyre has served the University with distinction. . . .His passion, courage, intellect, creativity, and tireless work ethic have made Wayne State a better University." The luncheon was attended by Deputy President Phyllis Vroom, Provost Ron Brown, and ten special guests selected by Professor McIntyre.
